About Us

North Yorkshire Wado-Kai was started some 20 years ago by Kevin Hamillton-Stewart. Sadly Kevin moved out of the area in 2000 and the club has been run jointly by the senior Dan grades since then.

We then changed affiliation and joined the Wado-Aiwakai Association under the Leadership of Sakagami Sensei, 7th Dan. It was felt that as a Wado club interested in furthering our knowledge and understanding of pure Wado-Ryu Karate it made sense to be joined with such an association. The move has proved to have been a successful one. We now have access to courses around the country with the team of Aiwakai instructors and the regular Japanese instructors Sakagami Sensei invites over to the country. There is a regular newsletter detailing the many activities organised by the association. The club also organises courses of it’s own, inviting instructors from the Aiwakai and elsewhere to broaden our experience.
